The Biggest Obstacle Of Your Life

If I were to ask you or anyone you know, “What is the biggest obstacle of your life”, you might tell me about something in your past. But, I guarantee that the first thing that would come to mind is something that you are dealing with now. Self-doubt, financial struggles, marital issues, family drama, work-place problems, etc. Why is that? Why, even though we’ve been through plenty of struggles, the biggest obstacle is generally what you are currently dealing with?

It’s amazing how much control we have over our lives that we don’t understand. We believe that increments of time are concrete because of a clock. We believe that there are sixty seconds in a minute, sixty minutes in an hour, twenty-four hours in a day, and so on and so forth. But, have you ever heard the saying, “time flies when you’re having fun”. And most of us would agree with that. As well, most of us would agree with how slow time moves when you are not. So if the feeling of time can change the measurement of time, time cannot be constant. Something is controlling time. What or who is controlling time?

You are. You are in control of your time in more ways than you think. A magnifier makes things bigger than what they actually are to make things easier to see and examine. Your focus is your magnifier, and what you have your focus on becomes bigger. If you’re focused is on how much fun you are having, time fades to the background and moves without you noticing. Do you have control over your magnifier, do you have control over your focus?

For many of us, we do not. Our focus is controlled by our circumstances. If something makes us feel uncomfortable there goes our focus, and we magnify every part of that situation. If something causes us some kind of pain, there goes our focus, and we magnify every part of that situation. And we allow circumstances to control our focus. Pro tip: We are always focused on something. You have to be aware of what you are focused on. Are you focused on your problems and what might not be going right at the moment, or are you focused on where you want to be and what you want to do? Do you have your goals in your focus?

When you understand where your focus is and your commit to keeping your focus there, you will control where your life goes. You cannot control how it gets there and the circumstances you will find yourself in along the way (to a degree), but you will be in control of where you end up. Do not let the circumstances in the meantime distract you. They will come and they will go. Stop taking your focus off of the road for the obstacles in the road. Keep going, get focused, and stay focused.
